Titanic’s ‘Café Parisien’ was a very last minute addition to her plans and was thanks to a stroke of genius by her designers, looking to better utilize a small promenade outside the a la carte Restaurant. Unlike some of the other rooms aboard the ship that were rich in detail and heavy in decoration, the Café was deliberately quaint, light and airy and designed to have an overall appearance of a typical French sidewalk café.
Climbing ivy added a touch of authenticity to the trellis paneling and the room was furnished with small groups of wicker tables and chairs. This facility was open all day from 8am to 11pm where light refreshments, small meals and sandwiches could be purchased at any time throughout the day – all served by authentic, French-speaking waiters.
